An Intimate Idaho Capitol Wedding: Elvera & Matthew’s Downtown Boise Elopement

Last April, I had the absolute honor of photographing one of the sweetest elopements I’ve ever been a part of. Elvera and Matthew chose to share their vows at the Idaho State Capitol Building, creating the most elegant and intimate Idaho Capitol wedding experience in the heart of downtown Boise. As a Boise elopement photographer, there are few places as stunning and timeless as this landmark in Boise—the perfect setting for a heartfelt ceremony.
Why the Idaho State Capitol Is Perfect for an Intimate Wedding
If you’re dreaming of a small, meaningful celebration, it’s hard to beat an Idaho Capitol wedding. The grand marble architecture, glowing natural light, and quiet weekday atmosphere create a stunning backdrop for elopements and micro-weddings. The Capitol’s iconic interior adds a sense of elegance without requiring any extra décor — it’s naturally breathtaking.
Although you can’t privately reserve any part of the building (since it’s public) there are lot of great spots for the ceremony and photos, especially if you go on a weekday.
Exchanging their “I-dos”
From the moment I arrived, the atmosphere of the Idaho Capitol Building felt very busy and full of people. Come to find out, a large youth choir from Idaho Falls was visiting.
As Elvera and Matthew exchanged their “I-dos” under the dome’s glow, the choir began to sing—completely unplanned and totally magical.
One of the most special touches of their day was that my husband, Cameron, was the officiator. Watching him guide them through their vows inside such a historic building made their Idaho State Capitol elopement feel even more personal. It’s not every day I get to photograph a wedding that my own husband helps bring to life!
Boise elopement
Elvera looked absolutely radiant—classic and glowing—and Matthew couldn’t stop smiling at her. After the ceremony, we wandered throughout the Capitol, taking portraits on the sweeping staircases, beneath the tall columns, and beside the sunlit windows the building is known for.
For couples dreaming of a Boise elopement or an intimate Capitol wedding, these architectural details make the location truly unmatched. (And the best part is- it’s completely FREE!)
Their families followed along, cheering them on and joining in for group photos full of laughter and love. What I loved most about their celebration was how relaxed it felt—just two people choosing each other, surrounded by the few who mean the most. No rush, no chaos—just love, intention, and connection.
Elvera and Matthew, thank you for trusting me to capture your beautiful Idaho Capitol wedding. Your day was meaningful in every way, and I’m so grateful I got to be part of it!
